Inspiration

The name “My Forty Acres” draws direct inspiration from the famed “forty acres and a mule,” which refers to a compensation that was pledged to freed Black slaves after the civil war. The usage of the name is not intended to parody the concept of pre emancipated suffrage; rather, it stands as a symbol of ownership. More specifically, it speaks to the virtues of sole possession over ones creativity and ideas. One could constitute art as being free of all restraints or a boundless exploration of time, space, mind, body and spirit. Therefore, My Forty Acres is an expression of freedom and a declaration of creative independence.
